The British Isles GPS archive Facility
A NERC Facility operated by the IESSG at the University of Nottingham
<<<See bottom of page for latest news>>>
The aim of BIGF is to provide a central long-term repository of GPS data
recorded by continuously operating GPS receivers at stations throughout the
British Isles.
These data are in turn to be provided to the scientific community in the UK
and elsewhere, to carry out research, whether for short-term purposes such
as weather forecasting, or the longer term, involving the extraction of
environmental or physical signatures buried within the data.
The archive currently holds data from a network of 50 stations owned by
DEFRA, the Environment Agency, the Met Office, the Ordnance Survey, the
National Physical Laboratory, NERC Space Geodesy Facility, Proudman
Oceanographic Laboratory, the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and the
University of Nottingham.
Since its inception the archive has supplied about 1.4 site-centuries of
data to external scientific users with many diverse applications.
Database queries and requests for data are via a dedicated website,
currently under development. For more information please

The BIGF website is becoming more functional, now including:
>Online data request form
>Network status
>Station logs (non-OS stations only)
Other features to follow will include:
>Station coordinates
>Links to and/or details of past and current projects enabled by archive
data
>We need to gain feedback from users on byproducts resulting from the use
of archive data (to give an idea of value added), such as papers written,
presentations made, PhDs spawned - again an online form will soon be
available to streamline the process. The first report will cover the year
to March 31 2003. We will be contacting users when the form is available.
