Dear colleagues,
we are organising for the 2004 Florence IGC a pre-congress field trip
("The subducted Tethys in the Aosta Valley (Italian western Alps)")
that will be of interest to all metamorphic geologists.
We will visit famous Zermatt-Saas high-pressure ophiolitic rocks,
(Fe-Cu eclogitised hydrothermal deposits of Servette, the well known
Mn-bearing eclogites of Praborna, Cignana coesite-bearing eclogites)
and the two eclogitised continental margins bording the Tethys ocean
(Monte Rosa and Sesia-Lanzo). Hystorical and regional geology -
tectonics aspects will also be covered. Good weather will
add grand views of the Alps and their structure.
More informations can be found at this web site

and at the IGC official web site (2nd circular, field trips).
Looking forward to seeing you next summer,
the organisers
