We apologize for repeated postings. Please note that the deadline for
applications is at hand.
Dear Colleague,
This letter solicits applications for a workshop on Teaching Petrology
in the 21st Century (with focus on igneous and metamorphic petrology).
This workshop is part of the On the Cutting Edge program (sponsored by
NAGT and funded by NSF) to support professional development in
geoscience education. The workshop will be held July 9-15, 2003 at
Montana State University, Bozeman MT. The workshop agenda includes a
field trip to classic locations in Montana and Wyoming, demonstrations
of effective class, lab, and computer-assisted instructional
activities, large group discussions about “core” issues related to
teaching petrology, and small group working sessions. Further details
about the workshop and the application form can be found at:
http://serc.carleton.edu/NAGTWorkshops/petrology03/index.html
The application deadline is January 14, 2003 and accepted participants
will be notified prior to February 1. Please let us know of your
interests and potential contributions to the workshop on the
application form. ALL instructors who teach petrology at the
undergraduate level are encouraged to apply (e.g. from all institutions
and from diverse instructional settings). The costs of the workshop
are covered by our grant from NSF. Participants will have to pay for
their own travel to MT, although we do have some travel funds to help
offset expenses for those without institutional support. Please feel
free to contact the conveners if you need further information, and
we’ll hope to see you in MT this summer.
