INTEGRATED SURFACE PROCESSES/TECTONICS/METAMORPHIC GEOLOGY
POSTDOCTORAL POSITION
Department of Geology & Geophysics
University of Minnesota
Minneapolis. Minnesota USA
We are looking for an individual who would like to be at the center
of an effort to study interactions among tectonic, petrologic, and
surface-process systems, all broadly defined. The effort will be
highly interdisciplinary and will involve participants whose research
interests intersect the triple junction among surface processes,
tectonics, and metamorphic geology. Research activities will likely
integrate modeling, field, and/or experimental components, depending
on the expertise and interest of the successful candidate.
Qualifications for this two-year postdoctoral position are a Ph. D.
in some aspect of tectonic, metamorphic, or Earth-surface systems,
preferably with some expertise in quantitative analysis and/or
modeling. Ideally this would be combined with strong field and/or
experimental skills. An applicant need not have done previous
research that integrates tectonics/petrology and surface processes.
The postdoctoral position is not tied to any particular project, so
the research direction is open to a wide range of possibilities.
The primary faculty interacting with the postdoc will be Chris Paola
(surface processes/sedimentology/fluvial dynamics), Christian
Teyssier, (structural geology/tectonics), Donna Whitney (metamorphic
geology), and Lesley Perg (surface processes/neotectonics).
The Department of Geology and Geophysics (http://www.geo.umn.edu/)
has 23 faculty members, 25 research associates and post-doctoral
fellows, and about 60 graduate students encompassing a broad range of
geoscience research. We maintain a wide array of modern analytical,
experimental, and computational facilities, and have strong ties with
the St. Anthony Falls Laboratory, the site of the new National Center
for Earth-surface Dynamics (http://www.nced.umn.edu/).
Applicants should send a statement of research interests, a CV, and
the names and addresses of at least three referees to Donna L.

Applications will be accepted until the position is filled, but we
hope to begin review of applications in early March 2003.
