We have an exciting opportunity for a freelance educational worker to
produce an education pack and programme of events for a major exhibition at
Astley Hall in 2004. It will celebrate the great local 17th century
astronomer, Jeremiah Horrocks and his amazing first observation of the
Transit of Venus, an event which altered the course of astronomy.
The exhibition will run from April to December 2004. It will include rare
scientific artefacts, loaned from Liverpool and Prescot Museums, and
exciting interactives, including an animatronic head of Jeremiah Horrocks
explaining his discoveries. The highlight of the year will be a chance to
see the Transit of Venus itself on 8th June, a phenomenon which will not
occur again in this country until 2200 !
We are looking for an innovative and experienced freelancer to research and
produce an education pack and programme fully integrated with the National
Curriculum, to encourage primary and secondary schools to take advantage of
this once in a lifetime learning opportunity.
The successful applicant will receive a remuneration of £4500.
