Hi, this all makes sense but I'm afraid we have very little experience
with Sun's own compiler. It does indeed seem to be the case that Sun's
compiler produces _much_ faster code than gcc, and seems to compile our C
programs fine, but is less happy with the C++ - but we haven't looked into
this in any detail, sorry!
