Hact (Housing Associations Charitable Trust) is organising a free training
programme for refugee community housing advisers and volunteers in Yorkshire
and Humberside.
The Leeds based course is part of hact's refugee housing integration
programme. It consists of seven training days and will run over a 7-week
period to provide refugee community advisers/volunteers with the basic
information, skills and resources to improve the quality of advice and
support they provide to their members of the community. The course will:
* provide basic up-to-date knowledge on the housing, community development
and welfare entitlements for refugees and asylum seekers
* raise awareness about the role of the consortia and local voluntary and
statutory agencies therefore enabling advisers to signpost and network more
effectively
* highlight examples of good practice in housing and advice
The seven day programme will start on Tuesday 3 June 2003 and continues on
weekly basis with sessions held on 10, 17 and 24 June, 1 and 8 July and
concludes on Tuesday 15 July. Trainees should be committed to attending all
seven days of the course and would be offered certificates of attendance.
Hact has a limited bursary fund to support trainees who might need childcare
subsidies and help with travel from outside Leeds.
