Hello folks,
In advance of the discussion of the 2nd edition of MIDAS, starting next
Monday, list members may be interested to have a look at the draft plans for
how the project will be managed and run. These are available in the file
store for this discussion list, and can be accessed via the web-site listed,
or can be retrieved using email commands (see below). All of these should be
regarded as drafts to get discussion moving, rather than done deals.
Comments are most welcome. The FISH steering group meeting on October 16th
will review these and determine the way forward.

http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/files/FISH/MIDAS2ndEdIssues.htm
This is a list of Issues that have been raised since the publication of the
1st edition. It includes suggestions for new 'information schemes' - subject
areas that MIDAS should cover - or additional 'units of information' -
individual facts or data fields that should be included, plus a variety of
other issues. I'll update this during and after discussion next week. (Note
it also covers the INSCRIPTION standards).

In response to those issues I put this Task list about 6 months ago. It is a
list of 'things to do' to address the issues raised, and to look at other
areas in running the 2nd edition project.

http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/files/FISH/MIDAS2ndEdPID.htm
The project will be run according to the guidelines set out in PRINCE2, a
project management methodology originally designed for IT projects, but now
widely used in the UK heritage sector. This document is a 'Project
Initiation Document' (PID) which provides everyone involved with a clear
view of what is to be done, how, and by who.

http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/files/FISH/MIDAS2ndEdProductFlo.pdf
(You'll need Adobe Acrobat reader for this one). A 'Product Flow Diagram' or
'roadmap' indicating what products will be developed in what order, and
roughly dividing the project into stages. Shaded blue items are those points
where wide consultation with the sector will take place. A separate diagram
showing the Peer review process in the third stage in more detail can viewed
at http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/files/FISH/MIDAS2ndEdPeerReview.pdf
If these urls don't work, or you prefer to get copies by email this is what
you need to do:
send an email to [log in to unmask] with the following content
get fish\filename
--
replacing filename with the full name of the file you want (the bit after
the last / in the web addresses).
e.g.
get fish\MIDAS2ndEdProductFlo.pdf

Best wishes all,
