Colleagues,
I would like to propose a symposium for the Ethnography network at ECER that
focuses on student/learner perspectives. In particular I am interested in
collecting together papers that highlight one or more of the following
aspects:
* examples of learner inclusiveness in teaching and learning decision
making about curriculum and pedagogy
* strategies used to make teaching more 'learner inclusive'
* the effects on the learning experience of including learners'
perspectives in teaching pedagogies
The European Students organisation has published reports and made
recommendations for increasing student involvement in the design of
programmes, the pedagies to be employed and the evaluation of courses. To
that end the EC have supported a Socrates ten partner research project into
creative learning where the research focus is predominently that of student
perspectives. In England one of the governement funding councils has
recently supported a large research project into the value of student
perspectives and how to develop their inclusion in schools. There is also a
longstanding discourse that advocates more democracy in schools.
The general argument for researching and developing student inclusion in
decisions concerning teaching and learning is that it enhances the
effectiveness of learning, develops meaningful learning, democratises the
learning process and encourages collaboration rather than oppositions.
If anyone would like to offer a paper to this symposium please send me an
abstract with a maximum of 250 words including details of all co/authors,
your institution/department and your status BEFORE March 10.
You should have course be willing to take part in the ECER Conference in
Hamburg from the 10-12th September.
Bob
