Optimising the Use of Partial Information on Urban and Regional
Systems (OPUS)
Centre for Transport Studies
Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering
Impeial College London
Full Time Post Doctoral Research Associate
Part Time Pre Doctoral Research Assistant
The aim of this project, which is supported by the European Commission,
is to develop a generic statistical framework for the optimal combination
of complex spatial and temporal data from survey, census, real-time and
telematics sources. The work will involve the development of (a)
statistical models to characterise the spatial and temporal aspects of
sampling and non-sampling variation and based on this (b) algorithms for
the optimal combination of data from different sources. Applications will
include the combination of different type of transport data and the
combination of transport and health data. The project will involve close
collaboration with a number of academic groups throughout Europe and
with public authorities and commercial collaborators in the UK and
overseas.
Research Associate: You will play a leading role in the development and
implementation of the statistical modelling methodology. Qualified to
doctoral level in a relevant aspect of statistical science epidemiology. A
background in Bayesian methods and data fusion and/or data imputation
techniques is desirable. Prior experience in transport modelling is also
desirable, but not essential.
Salary will be on the RA1A scale (£18,265 - £27,339 plus £2,134 London
Allowance), depending on qualifications and experience.
Research Assistant: You will principally contribute to the administration
of the project and will be expected to register for a PhD in a relevant
aspect of transport demand modelling. You will also have a good degree in
a highly numerate engineering or science subject; knowledge of a second
major European language is preferred.
Salary will be RA1B scale (£18,265 - £20,311 plus £2,134 London
Allowance pro rata), depending on qualifications and experience.
Both appointments will be for available until the end of April 2006 in the
first instance.
