Dear Colleagues
I have attached below a call for abstracts for the next Health Economics Study Group meeting, which will take place at the University of Kent at Canterbury in July. A key theme of this meeting is improving the links between health economics and other areas of social welfare, and thus may be of partiuclar interest to some of you.
Best wishes
David McDaid

HEALTH ECONOMISTS STUDY GROUP SUMMER 2003
Canterbury, 9th - 11th July 2003
CO-HOSTED BY:
PSSRU (Personal Social Services Research Unit), University of Kent at
Canterbury
PSSRU, London School of Economics
Pfizer Ltd, Sandwich, Kent
CALL FOR PAPERS:
Papers on any health economics topic are invited for the 63rd Health
Economists Study Group Meeting to be held 9-11 July 2003 at the University
of Kent at Canterbury.
Papers are particularly welcome from first time presenters and PhD students.
There will be "parallel" sessions with written papers submitted in advance,
introduced and reviewed by a discussant other than the author.
At this meeting we will have a plenary session on the increasingly important
link between Health Economics and other areas of Social Welfare. We are
therefore especially keen to receive additional papers on this topic.
ABSTRACTS:
If you wish to present a paper, please send a title and abstract of up to
250 words describing the proposed content with some indication of the
methods used. Where work is in progress please indicate the stage the work
has reached and (where appropriate) whether quantitative results are
available. As we plan on making all abstracts available on the web, please
submit abstracts by email as a Word attachment (use a clear
header stating it is a "HESG abstract").
DEADLINE FOR ABSTRACTS: Wednesday, 9 April 2003.
Please submit abstracts to Judy Lee ([log in to unmask]
<mailto:[log in to unmask]>).
PAPERS:
Papers are restricted to a maximum length of 20 pages including tables
(7,500 words). Papers will be made available on the web. Therefore
full papers should be submitted in Word or PDF format, either as email
attachments or on disk.
DEADLINE FOR FULL PAPERS: 5th June 2003
SELECTION CRITERIA
1. Each HESG meeting provides a forum for the discussion of health
economics issues using the language of economics. Papers with no or very
little economic content will be rejected.
2. Work-in-progress papers, those at an early stage and those on
important health economics issues are welcome. Reproduced reports and
papers (especially those written for other audiences) and book chapters will
be rejected.
3. In selecting papers for the parallel sessions, the organisers will
seek to encourage first time presenters and PhD students.
4. Authors or sets of authors (but not institutions or units) may be
restricted to one paper presented in a parallel session, but no such
restrictions will apply to open sessions.
5. Only abstracts submitted before the deadline will be considered.
6. The maximum number of papers to be presented at the conference will
be 34. If more than 34 abstracts meet the criteria above, the first 34
abstracts received (meeting the above criteria) will be accepted.
Full instructions for authors of parallel and open sessions will be sent out
once papers are accepted.
