We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow with skills in and a commitment to
resolving issues relating to optimising land use within whole-farm
enterprises through a modelling approach. The successful applicant will
use computer simulation modelling and data analysis to carry out
systematic comparisons of farm landscape and management combinations
that incorporate key issues of climate, soil type, topography, water use
and management, past management, vegetation, flock and herd management
and farm infrastructure to determine an optimum arrangement of
enterprises within whole-farms. The work will involve liaising with
farmers and real-life planning issues in conjunction with members of the
Centre for Sustainable Farming Systems.
Candidates must have recently completed a PhD, which included a
significant component of simulation modelling in areas relating to farm
ecosystems, land management, and/or soil-plant interactions. A
commitment to profitable and sustainable farming systems is highly
desirable.
