Call for contributions: Drawing as Communication
TRACEY is an electronic journal dedicated to contemporary drawing issues. It
has a fast growing readership of practitioners, academics and students
representing a wide range of drawing interests including fine art,
architectural design, graphics, product design and visual communication. You
can see us at http://www.lboro.ac.uk/departments/ac/tracey
In this call for contributions, we are focusing on the theme of
Communication, particularly in relation to the following questions:
· How do you use drawing to communicate?
· Why draw to communicate? When does drawing have a function beyond the
aesthetic and the decorative?
· Is the process of drawing to communicate a concept common to all
design and manufacturing disciplines?
· Is drawing better than language for describing plans, strategies and
processes?
A submission can be drawings or other visual material, previously
unpublished texts or research papers, or text and images combined. There is
no word or image limit at this stage, as the editors will use their
discretion in finalising the published outcome. All submissions will be
subject to editorial control in consultation with our external advisors.
We are also interested in seeing sketchbooks and visual notebooks from
anyone who uses drawing as a way of collecting information, working out
ideas or solving problems, so that we can promote the idea of drawing as a
way of visual thinking.
The deadline for submissions is 30 April 2003. Submissions should be sent on
disk (Zip or CD, Mac or PC format) or as email attachments. Images should be
RGB or greyscale, 72 dpi, around 4-8 inches wide, in TIFF or (high quality)
JPEG format. Text should be provided in MS Word (.doc) or rich text (.rtf)
format.
