The last elearning group meeting, at the National Maritime Museum,
Greenwich, hosted by the NOF PortCities project team there, dealt with these
very issues. It was entitled Writing for the Web, and also looked at issues
such as how manage writers, how to pitch material for a lifelong learning
audience, technical standards etc. There is a set of files available from
one of the presenters summarising the points covered at the meeting, if
anyone would like them.
The idea of these informal meetings, limited to just 15 participants to
allow coherent discussion, is that people follow up topics of interest to
them afterwards, either via the elearning list or independently via contacts
made at the meeting.
The next meeting is at the River and Rowing Museum, Henley in March and is
likely to be on the topic of evaluation. Other meetings are in preparation.

Subject: Writing text for the web
Just to let everybody know that as a result of my e-mail to the MCG list
I had 22 requests for the style sheet on writing for the web that I
produced. Goodness knows what would happen if I also offered it on the
GEM or E-Learning list.
It seems to me that this response shows that there is a great deal of
interest in this area and that more discussion is needed amongst content
providers for museum websites. The question is where and when will that
happen?
