I am reminded of the case about two years ago where the All England Lawn
Tennis Club - which stages the Wimbledon tennis championships - attempted to
get a restriction on the use of the word "Wimbledon" in business names.
Their argument was that the "Wimbledon Championships" was a "brand" that was
recognised worldwide and whose image could be diminished by its use in other
(more downmarket) businesses. They wanted the right to approve further use.
The only glimmer of sanity was that they didn't propose to make the measure
retrospective.

Some time ago I wrote to the OIC suggesting that there should be change to
the law (either DPA or Companies Act) that prevents anyone from creating a
company with the phrase "Data Protection" in it without the permission of
the OIC. However, OIC did not reply. Is it a completely daft idea??
