           Call for Papers
 GROUP '03 International Conference on
      Supporting Group Work
         November 9-12, 2003
      Sanibel Island, FL USA

GROUP '03 is interested in topics related to computer-based
systems that have an impact on groups, organizations and social
networks. A strong emphasis of GROUP '03 is the integration
of multiple computer-based tools and technologies. Relevant
issues include the design, implementation, deployment,
evaluation, research methodologies, and impact of these
systems.

GROUP'03 is sponsored by the Association for Computing
Machinery's Special Interest Group on Supporting Group Work
(ACM SIG GROUP).

http://www.acm.org/siggroup/conferences/group03

Scope

GROUP '03 attempts to integrate two themes of research: the
organizational and behavioral issues and the modeling and
implementation issues associated with group work. It brings
together researchers and practitioners from different areas
working on the development, introduction, management,
deployment, and analysis of computer-based systems supporting
group work within organizations. We particularly encourage
submissions and participation from industry. Suggested topics
include but are not limited to:

Social Impact Issues:
-Experiences with the computing systems applications that
support group or organizational processes
-New forms of education, entertainment and social relations
based on cooperation technologies
-Understanding and modeling of groups or organizations
- Strategies and solutions for the combination or integration
of the emerging Internet businesses
- Social aspects of globally distributed computing and new
cooperative work technologies
- Digital communities: experiences and evaluation
-Impacts of wireless, mobile and wearable technologies on
cooperative work
-Qualitative analyses of cooperative work

Technical Implementation Issues:
- Organizational computing systems and infrastructure
- New groupware solutions and technologies
- Computer-supported collaboration and negotiation
- Coordination and workflow technology
- Cooperative knowledge management, organizational
learning and organizational memory
- Cooperation technologies for education, entertainment and
social life
- Innovative forms of human-computer interaction for
cooperative technologies

Submission categories

Submissions to the conference can be in the form of papers,
demonstrations, workshops, or tutorials. Accepted papers will
be published in the ACM Press Conference Proceedings and the
ACM Digital Library.

Papers

Paper submission on original research or industrial papers on
any of the conference topics are invited. Research papers should
make clear the novel aspects of work they present, and their
contribution to the development of system for supporting
groups, organizations or social networks. Industrial papers
should describe technical or key business issues in applying
group technology. Please reference the web site for details in
the spring.

Workshops

Workshops provide an informal and focused environment for
the information exchange and discussion of Group related
topics. A workshop proposal should contain a title, aim and
objective, intended participants and workshop description. It
should also specify the maximum number of participants, the
planned duration (half-day/full-day) and the audio/visual
equipment needed. Workshops will take place on Nov. 9th.

Tutorials

The tutorial program will offer the opportunity to learn about
concepts, methods, systems, and techniques for specific aspects
of supporting group work. Experts on any field of the
conference scope are encouraged to submit a tutorial proposal.
The proposal should contain a title, aim and objectives, content
outline, intended audience and description of the qualification
and expertise of the instructors. In addition it should also
specify the maximum number of participants, the planned
duration (half-day, full-day) and the audio/visual equipment
needed. Tutorials will take place on Nov. 9th.

More detailed information about paper format and electronic
submission can be found at the conference web site after
April 1.
