ESRC CASE (COLLABORATIVE) RESEARCH STUDENTSHIP
Police Cultures in a Diverse Society: A Provincial Police Force in
Transition?
An opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified person to conduct
research leading to a PhD into cultural change in a provincial police
force. The research will seek to address the beliefs and self-
understandings of officers in the light of social and political
developments nationally over the last twenty years, as well as local
efforts since 1996 to reform the organisational culture of
Staffordshire Police. The study will aim in part to assess the
effects of this reform programme on the working environment of
Staffordshire Police.
The project will be supervised by Dr. Ian Loader and Dr. Bill Dixon
in collaboration with Staffordshire Police. The studentship will be
full-time for 3 years from September 2003 and be paid at a starting
stipend of £10,450 p.a., plus research expenses. University fees
will be met in full.
Informal enquiries are welcome and can be made to Dr. Ian Loader
([log in to unmask]) or Dr. Bill Dixon ([log in to unmask]).
