                Announcement and Call for Papers

             Teaching SLEASE at University 2003
        14-15 April 2003 at the University of Reading


Social, Legal and Ethical Aspects of Software Engineering (SLEASE) is a
required segment of British Computer Society  accreditation for Computer
Science and IT degree courses. The pace of change in computer technology,
its impact on society and law are topics which are of interest to many
computer scientist and their students. However, teaching these topics
requires a different approach to most of computer science. This two day
conference, to be held at The University of Reading on the 14th and 15th
April 2003 aims top bring together those teaching the subject for
presentations and discussion about the topics.


Call for Papers

Papers will be fully refereed and a conference proceedings with an ISBN
will be produced. One of the authors of each accepted paper will be expected
to present at the conference. The conference will run from late morning on
Monday 14th April until the afternoon of Tuesday 15th April. Registration
will be available with or without accommodation on the Monday night.
(Accommodation will also be available for Sunday and/or Tuesday nights at a
suitable cost.)


Scope of the Conference

Papers are sought on all aspects of Teaching SLEASE including,
but not limited to:

-- Curriculum of SLEASE and the place of SLEASE within the CS/IT
   curriculum.

-- Assessment of student understanding.

-- Details of particular topics for teaching.

-- Teaching and learning methods.

-- Literature surveys of material for lecturers or students.



Technical Details of Submissions

Authors are requested to submit papers as an attachment to an email.
The paper must be in MS Word, Postscript or PDF. Papers should be
between three thousand and seven thousand words. Please submit with
double spacing and at least one inch margins on all sides.

The cover page should contain the paper title, and the name, affiliation,
address, phone number, fax number and email address of all authors. For
multi-author papers one author should be designated the corresponding author.
An abstract of no more than 300 words should be included which summarises
the objectives and content of the paper.

Originality

Authors should only submit original and previously unpublished papers.
Submission of a paper is interpreted as a statement that no part of the
paper has been published or is under review by another formal publisher.
