Tuesday April 8th: Doctoral symposium
EASE/PPIG Conferences: Keele University
One of the developments of the past decade has been the growing
expectation that a PhD thesis will contain a chapter that addresses
the "evaluation" of the ideas contained in the thesis. In parallel
to this, the evaluation and empirical studies communities have been
developing frameworks and techniques that can assist with determining
the most appropriate approaches to adopt in evaluating research.
This year, the co-located EASE (Evaluation and Assessment in Software
Engineering) and PPIG (Psychology of Programming Interest Group)
annual conferences are hosting a half-day symposium intended to
provide guidance and help for students in the wider areas of "computing"
who need to address this issue of evaluation of their work. The
symposium will run from 0830 until lunchtime on Tuesday 8th April
and will be centred around interactive sessions with experienced
evaluators.
The fee for the symposium is £40, including lunch, attendance at the
first part of the conferences (the afternoon following the symposium),
and a copy of the proceedings. For the syposium and the full conference,
including all meals and accommodation for the Monday through Wednesday
evenings, the fee is £360 (the conferences run until lunchtime on
Thursday 10th).
We have applied for support from EPSRC and hope to be able to provide
travel bursaries for student attendees.
