I'm looking for any experiences/ views about recording course and student
data for the HESA NCB return, especially if you use the main student
registry system.
At Liverpool for some years we have captured the data on an ACCESS
database, which is stand-alone and not part of the main University Student
Registration system, which uses BANNER software.
We now need to migrate onto another database for capturing NCB data.
From discussions with our student registry it appears that there could be
problems in trying to use BANNER, as it requires detailed info for each
'student', without which the record is classed as incomplete. Obviously
some NCB courses are informal sessions and departments won't hold all the
usual detailed info about participants.
My question s are as follows:
1. Has anyone else had this problem of trying to record NCB data on the
main student registry system? Or do you use stand-alone databases?
2. If you are using the main registry system are any of you using BANNER to
record data for the NCB Return?
3. If you use BANNER how have you got round the issue of the need to record
full details for each 'student'?
4. Another related issue concerns student registration rights. Do your NCB
students have full registration rights eg use of computer and library
facilities?
I will collate any replies and post to the list in due course.
Thanks,
Alison
