‘Consumer Involvement in the NHS Health Technology 
Assessment Programme’

PART-TIME (0.5) RESEARCH OFFICER (1A)

Salary on appointment pro rata of £18,265 - £20,311 
plus £2,134 London Allowance Appointment 1 July 2003 to 
31 March 2005

The project will review the procedures and resources 
for consumer involvement and study consumers’ 
contributions. You will interview managers, clinicians, 
researchers and consumers, analyse consumers’ 
contributions and their influence on research 
commissioned, refine resources and procedures to 
support consumer involvement, attend project steering 
group meetings in Southampton and prepare a draft 
project report.

You will need: 
· A first degree or equivalent in a social or 
health-related science. 
· Research experience, possibly gained as part of a 
degree course. 
· Skills in the collection and analysis of qualitative 
data from interviews and documents. 
· An appreciation of experimental study designs in 
health services research. 
· A demonstrated commitment to the goal of consumer 
involvement in planning and evaluating health services.
