Dear all,
CLASSICSGRADS has finally gone live...
The London list which I have been running for so long is now essentially
defunct, and is being replaced by this new list, owned and moderated by
myself, run using the ListServe software and hosted by JISCMAIL.AC.UK. It
is therefore now very similar in form to the national CLASSICS list run out
of Liverpool, but intended for post-grads only.
Since the list is moderated and requires subscription, etc. it should be
100% spamfree and therefore you will not see much difference from what went
before, with certain exceptions.
1. the list is now intended to be national rather than London based. I
shall not therefore post the weekly digest of London lectures to it as
before, but only the more general postings of particular lectures,
forthcoming conferences, jobs and vacancies of interests etc.
2. anyone subscribed to the list can post a message (either by sending it
from your normal e-mail system to [log in to unmask], or by going
to the website HTTP://WWW.JISCMAIL.AC.UK/CLASSICSGRADS and following the
easy onscreen instructions. (Please note that any message posted to the
site will go via the list-editor (currently myself) for approval [this is
intended as more of a security device than implying any censorship! see
below]).
For more information go to http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/classicsgrads. This
page also allows you to make alterations to your subscription or to leave
the list. (I have simply transferred all those on the old list to the new
one; to leave this list go to the www address).
A further standard message should follow, containing the basic information
on list-use.
While this list must be owned and ultimately maintained by a member of
academic staff, it is my intention to leave much of its running in the
hands of the post-graduate community (of which I remain a member for
another few months yet! Still haven't finished the thesis...).
To that end, I invite volunteeers to get in touch to take on the role of
assistant editor to the list (a fairly minimal task, involving 1. screening
of messages sent to the list, 2. a little pro-active work in disseminating
information relating to your particular subject area).
Any reply to this message should go direct to me and not to the list.
With best wishes,
Jonathan Prag
