Ancient Historian Tenure Track
The Department of Classics at the University of Mississippi invites
ancient historians to apply for the tenure-track position of Assistant
Professor, to begin in academic year 2004-2005 (starting date
mid-August, 2004). In addition to offering a broad array of courses in
ancient Mediterranean history, applicants must be able to teach Latin
and Greek language at all levels to undergraduate and graduate
students. A completed Ph.D. is required. Review of applications will
begin on December 10, 2003 and will continue until the position is
filled or until an adequate pool of candidates is reached. Applicants

The Department of Ancient History and Classics at Trent University

position at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor rank
beginning 1 July 2004, subject to budgetary approval. The successful
applicant who holds the PhD has a proven record both as an effective and
versatile undergraduate teacher and as a scholar with an ongoing and
preferably externally funded research programme in Eastern Mediterranean
Archaeology and Civilisation; some administrative experience would be an
asset. She or he will teach in 2004-05 at least one course in those
fields as well as a course in Classical Civilisation (Women in Greece

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the
confirmation path position of Lecturer in the Department of Classics.
Candidates should normally have a completed PhD and an established
research programme in Greek Literature and Culture. The successful
candidate will be expected to have the ability to teach and assume
administrative responsibility for Greek Literature and Culture at all
undergraduate levels and be available to supervise 400-level research
essays, MAs and PhDs. An ability and willingness to teach courses in
areas such as civilisation, mythology and cinema would be an
advantage. Expertise in and the willingness to teach ancient Greek and
Latin to a high level is required.
Some initial interviews will take place at the January 2004 APA
Meeting in San Francisco, but candidates who cannot attend will not be

The Department of Classics at Drew University, a small liberal-arts
institution, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at
the rank of Assistant Professor, effective Fall 2004, pending budgetary
approval. The successful candidate will teach classes in our general
curriculum and Greek and Latin at all undergraduate levels. Applicants
should have experience with general-ed courses in classical studies, and be
comfortable with academic applications of technology. Courses recently
taught include surveys of ancient literature in translation, the ancient
family, women in antiquity, and Greek and Roman religion. Area of
specialization should complement those of current department members. We
encourage applicants who work closely with the literature of the classical
world, including the period of late antiquity. Candidates should
demonstrate effective teaching and scholarship and have the Ph.D. by

The Department of Classics and Religious Studies of the UNIVERSITY OF
OTTAWA announces the opening of a full-time, tenure-track position for an
assistant professor starting
1 July 2004.
Field of specialization: Latin literature
• PhD relevant to the field of Classics is required. Candidates
should have sufficient refereed publications (minimum three) to qualify
for supervising graduate research at the University of Ottawa.
• Most of the teaching at the undergraduate level will deal with
Latin language and literature of the classical period. Since the
department is in the process of focussing its M.A. programme on Late
Antiquity (A.D. 200-700), preference will be given to candidates with
demonstrated expertise in this period.
• The successful candidate will be expected to teach and direct
research at the undergraduate and graduate levels in both French and
English, and this immediately and competently upon assuming the position.
Initially, the bulk of the teaching load will be in English.
• Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, and
consistent with the University's Collective Agreement.
