>Joan,
As a geographer you might already know about these references but
sending them through anyway:
Skelton 2000 'Jamaican yardies on British television: dominant
representations, spaces for resistance' in Sharp et al Entanglements
of Power (which considers issues of race and class to some extent in
Jamaica as well as in the UK.)
Also the journal Small Axe has had some excellent papers on race,
class and colour - Indiana Press publish it now. I think you would
find some articles of value in the Journal of Eastern Caribbean
Studies too.
Also there's:
David Howard's Colouring the Nation on Dominican Republic
Gert Oostindie's edited book Ethnicity in the Caribbean
Kevin Yelvington's edited book on ethnicity in Trinidad
Linda Peake and Alissa Trotz Gender, Ethnicity and Place
Tracey Skelton
