The Department of Politics and International Studies is expanding with the
creation of four new permanent positions (and two temporary posts). I
suspect that list members will be most interested in the globalisation and

Six lectureships:
· The USA in the World
Permanent lectureship (lecturer ‘B’ scale) – an ability to teach ‘Politics
of the USA’ is essential. Wider interests in the role of the USA in the
world, in areas such as globalisation, regionalisation, world development,
environmental issues are sought.
· International Relations
Permanent lectureship (lecturer ‘B’ scale) – an ability to teach theories
of international relations at both undergraduate and masters levels, with
research interests in international relations, widely-defined, is
essential. Applications from candidates with a regional specialism
complementing our existing strengths are sought.
· International Relations
One-year temporary lectureship in international Relations (lecturer A/B
scale) – an ability to teach ‘Theories of international Relations’ at level
2 and to act as module director is essential.
· International Political Economy/Development
Permanent lectureship (lecturer ‘B’ scale) – an ability to
teach ‘Globalisation and Development’ within a wider understanding of
International Political Economy is essential. Research interests in areas
such as the international division of labour, migration, post-fordist
production models are sought.
· Security Studies
Permanent lectureship (lecturer ‘B’ scale) – candidates will possess
teaching ability and research interests within the field of security
studies, broadly-defined.
· One-year temporary lectureship in Political Theory (lecturer A/B
scale) – a proven ability to teach History of Political Thought and
Contemporary Political Philosophy is essential. Applications from
candidates with research interests cognate with those of existing members
of staff especially welcome.
Candidates who wish to apply for more than one post should submit a
separate application for each one. Appointment at Senior Lecturer level may
be offered to a suitable candidate for a permanent post.
