Subject: non-integer poisson
Greetings!
I am interested in problems for which the non-integer poisson (offered in
WinBUGS 1.4) is most suitable as a distribution on the prior or for data. On
the surface it would seem that the advantage of the non-integer poisson
distribution over other, positive-valued distributions such as exponential
or gamma, is that the non-integer poisson has zero in the support. While
this doesn't seem to offer any advantage for data distributions, such as
medical cost data which are typically modelled with tobit or two-part
models, it might be appropriate for priors on nodes that are positive and
include zero. I would greatly appreciate any references in which the
non-integer poisson is applied, or have any thoughts on using the
non-integer poisson. This is for pedagogical purposes only.
Thanks in advance!
Garnett
