Of course I'm a ludicrous romantic! It's interesting though to reflect on
the roots of those words: 'ludicrous' comes from 'to play' does it not, I'm
not checking the dictionary here, while 'romantic' comes 'roman', a tale,
presumably deriving from the tales distributed by 'Romania', i.e. the Latin
Empire. So 'romantic' can be translated as 'story-believing-in'. Which
intrigues, as we all believe in stories, our whole sort-of civilization is
built around them, the sense of constructed selves that derive therefrom.
'Ludicrous romantic', then, can be transcribed into 'play-liking
story-believer'.
This all with a pronounced smile.
