Tony,
Some of that was done some years back -- when Paul Buck & I edited an
anthology of experimental Brit poets that was published bi-lingually in
France, called MATIERES D'ANGLETERRE (Anthologie de la Nouvelle Poésie
Anglaise) by In'Hui Editions, Amiens, 1984. It included Barnett,
Benveniste, Paul Brown, buck Bunting, Catling, Chaloner, A. Clark,
Cobbing, Crozier, Evans, IHF, A Fisher, R Fisher, Forrest-Thomson,
Georhge, Griffiths, Hall, Harwood, Hawkins, Hilton, Hollo, Horovitz,
Houédard, James, Joris, McCarthy (now Freer), MacSweeney, Marley,
Richard Miller, Stuart Montgomery, Mottram, Mulford, Nuttall, Oliver,
Tom Phillips, Pickard, Prynne, Randell, raworth, Reed, Reedy, J Riley,
P Riley, Sherman, Simms, Sinclair, Smith, Temple, Torrance, Turnbull,
Welch.
Somewhat earlier there alreday had been a book called VOIX OFF /
ANGLETERRE (Castor Astral, Paris 1980) with work by Buck, McCarthy, A
Fisher, Mottram, Joris, George & Griffiths.
Don't know about Germany, though a number of poets (James, Crozier,
etc.) certainly had contacts with the German poetry scene.
But clearly though both those books were of use & did some good, tyhere
has been little if any follow-up (either from the brit or from the
French side) & it would be time to so exactly what you suggest.
