Being reminded of list-management duties, I decided to do a little
research. The following are some BritPo statistics from the last two
months (excluding today's frenetic activity); number of listees
posting, in total and by gender (as best I could figure; put the ?
down to the fact that maybe I should get out more), as well as the
number of posts from the five most frequent posters, male and female,
for each month.
Total number of subscribed addresses is 240, but very evidently many
of these are inactive.
December
Total 32 with 167 posts
Male 23 with 143 posts
Female 7 with 21 posts
? 2 with 3 posts
Most frequent posters (male):
39, 21, 10, 9, 6
Most frequent posters (female):
5, 5, 3, 3, 3
November
Total 44 with 293 posts
Male 32 with 242 posts
Female 7 with 42 posts
? 5 with 9 posts
Most frequent posters (male):
54, 28, 27, 19, 14
Most frequent posters (female):
14, 11, 9, 4, 2
(Feel free to check whether the figures add up; some bits are Excel,
and any wrong bits are no doubt down to my mental arithmetic)
A couple of further points: six of the seven female posters were the
same for the two months; the most frequent poster of all was the same
for the two months, but the other placings were pretty well swapped
around.
I'd be interested in any observations about these stats, of a
non-personal nature. My own immediate response is to note that there
aren't many frequent posters, that a single (male) listee easily
outnumbered the total of posts from all female listees over the two
months, and that the list is very much male-dominated.
Any suggestions as to how best we might counter some of these
imbalances and get this list up and hopping again would be very
welcome.
And could I encourage any new listees to introduce themselves, saying
why they joined in, and maybe even posting a poem? It'll help us get
back on track. And people who've been around here for a while but
haven't felt inclined to join in of late might have some
contributions to make?
In hope,
trevor
