well i'm not about setting out recommendations. I too blanche at Marinetti's
pompous poses and plunge from embracing the machine towards Fascism. But
sometimes certain phrases become emblematic - or more widely circulated.
That can of course be down to sheer luck of the draw or manipulation of the
media. I think he was a persistent bore quite honestly but still the phrase
and the dystopian vision it carried was influential.
but whatever, i don't disagree was just trying to say why this is a
different emphasis here than that found on many others poetry lists. It's
not that Heaney and Hughes are excluded - why i mentioned 'big huge' just
a while ago myself - but that other writers and less widely known
enquiries are deliberately forwarded. There's too little space accorded to
the lesser known sibling(s) as it is.
