Hi,
Anyone running BB6 Enterprise with the Community Portal on UNIX? We're
about to implement the above on the SUN platform but there is some
confusion regarding storage and where things should be installed.
I've specified quad processor SUN boxes with >4Gb RAM for the
application server and DB engine but don't know about disk storage. I've
specified a decent RAID array but am unsure as to where it needs to be -
attached to the Application Server or the DB engine? The Engine should
have something like 2 x 36Gb disks anyway, would that be sufficient for
Oracle 9i and some 1000 courses and 12K students? I would have thought
that the greater storage is required for the course materials - in some
cases on our 'basic' rig course materials amount to 200Mb+
Are there any downsides in having a smaller app server, say for instance
a Ultra60 with twin CPUs and a e4x0 quad for the DB engine? Am I right
in thinking that most of the work will be done at the App server end?
Am I just being dumb here and should spec twin e4x0 series quad boxes
with a couple of arrays?
BB have suggested NAS type storage but I don't want to consider NFS
mounting of NAS devices - the performance fall off with a DB engine and
the potential security risks don't seem worth it.
Any thoughts?
Oh and I intend to use the Building Blocks interface with QM Perception
- I've not found any yet but does anyone know of any gotchas?
