> > Is it necessary to start a new biomimetics journal again?
Here's another idea: how about an online journal that is also a database
and discussion forum?
We at RMI & Biomimicry Guild have been working on making an online
biomimicry database (similar to Bath's in basic concept, but quite
different in the particulars), and we would like one component of it to be
articles by primary researchers. When a person submits their article, they
can categorize it by what phenomenon/phenomena it is relevant to. When
other people view the article, they can post comments on it in a linked
bulletin-board, and can possibly put it into their own category scheme for
future reference. (For instance, the submitter might locate their article
in a TRIZ hierarchy, while a reader unfamiliar with that system could place
it in ISO's ICS standards classification scheme, or something else they
were familiar with.)
It would not have the cachet that a Royal Society publication would
have, but it would provide researchers with quicker feedback (and
potentially a public forum similar to this list), and would be easier to
search/browse than a normal journal database because of the
categorizations. It could also presumably be used in addition to other
publications, rather than instead of them.
Just an idea. Thoughts?
