The Black Music Education Trust, (BMET) is a national initiative focusing on
the multicultural achievements, aspirations, and heritage contained within
the diversity of UK Black Music.
BMET has so far established the first phase in the development of a Centre
for Black Music Research (CBMR -UK). This now exists in association with the
University of Westminster, and other regional partners. Over the next five
years, the CBMR at the University of Westminster London will document,
collect, preserve, and disseminate the history of British black music,
together with its effects locally and internationally. It will also promote
through events, exhibitions and seminars, an understanding of the common
roots of the music, musicians, and composers of the global African,
Caribbean and South Asian diaspora.
We are currently looking to partner with Museums, Archives, Organisations or
private individuals to assist in the process of sourcing content. If you are
aware of memorabilia, photo, records, recordings or film footage that might
be applicable, please get in touch.
