Romanticism and the Midlands Enlightenment

Keynote Speakers: Jenny Uglow & Desmond King-Hele
Call for Papers
20 minute papers are invited on any aspect of the relationship of
Romanticism (or late eighteenth century culture more generally) to the
Midlands Enlightenment. Possible topics might include Mrs Barbauld, Anna
Seward, Samuel Johnson, Joseph Priestley, the Edgeworths, the Wedgewoods,
Matthew Boulton, Thomas Day, the Lunar Society, Rational Dissent, late
eighteenth-century science and technology, chemistry, medicine, Erasmus
Darwin, Coleridge's dissenting connections, James Montgomery, Radicalism,
"Church and King" mobs in the 1790s etc
