Dear Gareth
I note with interest Geoff Harbach's comments regarding switches & inclement
weather.
With regards to the end of the switches terminated in a jack-plug it may be
of interest to you that each of our Omni+ special control interfaces is
supplied with a boot which is intended to fit over the mounting assembly &
mating cables & then locate around the base of the Omni+.
Use of this should then enable you to achieve a protection level equating to
IPx4, as described in Geoff's mail, at the interface point to the control
system.
Kind regards
John Hayward (Senior Sales Engineer)

Subject: Special Controls for EPIOCs
Dear All,
I wanted to get a range of opinions on the following issue:
Should special controls, particularly switch controls of various
configurations be used for indoor/outdoor powered wheelchairs, bearing in
mind the following.
General physical ability to stop, look listen etc for crossing road may be
impaired due to condition.
Switch controls particularly chin switches could be dangerous to use in
conjunction with a kerbclimber.
Switches such as buddy buttons are not rated for use in inclement weather.
What do other people think, particularly on the last point
(I can hear the phrase 'risk assessment' already!)
Regards
Gareth
