Oxford University Library Services.
Assistant Librarian Academic-Related Grade 2
Two Temporary (1 year) posts available
Salary scale AR2: £21,125 - £27,339
Applications are invited for two posts. The appointments,
initially for one year, are open-ended but will be
dependent on the continued availability of external funding
to support them, after the first year. Candidates are
invited to submit one application to be considered for
either post.
The first will be based in the Department of Special
Collections and Western Manuscripts (SCWMSS) at the
Bodleian Library, creating for the creation of on-line
collection-level records for the Archive Hub, in
continuation of work done over the past two years. The
post-holder will compile records from existing hardcopy
catalogues of the manuscript collections in OULS libraries.
This will include collections from the Bodleian Library not
already described on the Hub: smaller collections of
western manuscripts, and collections of maps and music from
the Department of Special Collections and Western
Manuscripts, and major collections of oriental manuscripts
and archives from Oriental Collections. It will also
include larger research-significant collections in OULS
libraries outside the Bodleian. The records will be
created, using ISAD(G) and following the JISC guidelines.
The person appointed will work as part of a small team, the
others working on retroconversion of Bodleian catalogues
and current automated cataloguing, under the supervision of
experienced staff.
The second post will be based in the Bodleian Library of
Commonwealth and African Studies (BLCAS) to compile on-line
collection-level records from existing hardcopy catalogues
of a major part of the extensive holdings of manuscripts
relating to British colonial history in the Library, in
continuation of work done over the past year. The
postholder will be based in the Vere Harmswoth Library
(administered with the Bodleian Library of Commonwealth and
African Studies). The records will be created for the
Archives Hub using ISAD(G) and following the JISC
guidelines. It is essential that the candidate will have
the ability to work independently.
It is anticipated that the successful candidates will have
a good honours degree, a postgraduate archives
qualification, and experience of cataloguing modern
political papers (the BLCAS post) or a wide range of
post-medieval manuscripts (for the SCWMSS post).
Familiarity with, and particularly experience of using
ISAD(G), NCA rules for indexing, LCSH, and EAD, will be
advantageous, as will experience in the creation of
collection-level records.
