EAD (Encoded Archival Description) Training Workshops
Following the previous successful EAD Training Workshops, the EAD/Data
Exchange Group has arranged the following additional dates:
University of Edinburgh: 14 November 2003
University of Warwick: 26 November 2003
The aim of the workshops is to provide a hands-on introduction to EAD as the
SGML (Standard Generalized Markup Language) DTD (Document Type Definition)
for archival finding aids and to assist repositories in deciding whether EAD
is appropriate to their needs.
The sessions will include:
* a brief introduction to SGML and XML
* an introduction to the structure of EAD
* hands on experience of encoding a finding aid in EAD using standard
SGML editing software
* an introduction to the issues surrounding the implementation of an
EAD project
* assessment of working EAD applications currently on the World Wide
Web
Each participant will have a dedicated PC installed with appropriate
software and training materials.
The course leaders will include Grant Buttars, Edinburgh University Library;
Sarah Higgins, University of Edinburgh; David Powell, Unlocking Access to
Scottish Textile Collections project; Bill Stockting, National Archives
(PRO); and Christine Woodland, Modern Records Centre, University of Warwick.
Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.
A maximum of 2 people will be allowed from each repository.
