Fiona,
All a bit recent but all archive related no doubt:
4/9 first pictures of Titanic for 73 years 1985
5/9 Mountbatten buried 1979, Mother Theresa dies 1997
10/9 Bomb at Kings Cross 1973
22/9 Bomb in Deal, Kent 1989
28/9 Brixton Riots 1985
The BBC website has an On this day feature which is pretty good.
Cheers and have a nice weekend.
Regards
Matt

On This Day In History ...
We are still looking for stories and images to complete our September 'On
This Day In History...' feature.
Specifically we are looking for anniveraries falling on September:
4, 5, 7, 10, 12, 13, 15, 22, 23, 24, 27, 28, 29, 30.
If you can think of any stories or material you might have linked to these
dates please send them through to me.
Also, does anybody have information/images relating to the following
September anniversaries. It does not necessarily have to be a document or
image of the specific date, but something we can use to illustrate the
topic:
1st Louis XIV of France (Sun King) died (1715)
Hitler's army invaded Poland (1939)
2nd Great Fire of London started in Pudding Lane, London (1666)
British use of Julian calendar ends - swithc to Gregorian calendar
(1752)
Hawaiian Queen Lili'uokalani born - last sovereign before annexation
by US (1838)
5th 11 Israeli athletes killed in terrorist attack on Olympics (1972)
7th Blitz campaign begins (1940)
Queen Elizabeth I norn at Greenwich Palace (1533)
9th Chairman Mao dies (1976)
16th The Mayflower ship departed from England (1620)
19th New Zealand becomes first country to grant women the right to vote
(1893)
22nd English scientist Michael Faraday born in Surrey (1791)
29th England's 'bobbies' made first appearance (1829)
Does anybody know about or have any material on Crouchmas (Crowchemesse) Day
that falls on 14th Sept?
We can also feature topics that cover September generally, harvesting for
example.Obviously we need stories to cover the whole month for the feature
to work, and we do have some great stories already, so please do help if you
can.
This could also be a potential radio piece so let me know who your archive
might have available to speak about the 'story for the day'.
This is a great opportunity to get a continuous publicity hit for AAM
throughout the month.
Many thanks to all of you supporting AAM - the online events listing
currently has 182 events registered - with a wide variety of formats: open
days, talks, films, tours, workshops, falconry, a pub guide and a play!
Thanks too to all of you who responded with fascinating archive facts.
