Two posts, one year contracts commencing August / September 2003
Based in London, salary c£17,500 - £22,000
(depending on qualifications and experience)
BT has recently completed the opening phases of its innovative Connected
Earth project, resulting in wholesale transfer of its heritage artefact
collections into the museum community, a programme of gallery and collection
developments across the UK and a leading-edge 'museum on the web'. BT's
continuing interest in its non-archival heritage and in the future direction
of Connected Earth now lies alongside Group Archives to form BT's Corporate
Memory.
We are seeking enthusiastic graduates to support this work, which would suit
recently qualified museum / archives / heritage interpretation
professionals, or someone wishing to experience a particularly varied range
of heritage related activity before applying to study for a professional
qualification.
Curatorial Support
The person appointed will support the Group Historian across his work, and
can expect to work closely with museums of all types and sizes. Duties will
include assisting with the merging of the dispersed material into the
receiving collections, documenting and recording material retained by BT,
web-content editing and general interpretative works. The Connected Earth
partners extend from Cornwall to Scotland, so some travelling will be
involved.
Archives Support
The person appointed will undertake a wide range of duties in support of the
Group Archivist in this leading business archive. There will be a particular
emphasis on developing our OPAC catalogues on CALM 2000, and on integrating
the former BT Museum's documentary collections. There will also be an
opportunity to assist with the continued development of the Connected Earth
virtual museum, and the BT Group Archives website
