This is a general invitation to the launch of the NOF funded website
project: Ideal Homes Suburbia in Focus. The launch is at the University of
Greenwich, Room 063, Queen Anne Court, Old Royal Naval College, Park Row,
SE10 9LS, on Tuesday May 20th 5-7pm. There are posh canapes and wine and
mercifully short speeches.
Using the rich and unique archive collections of six London boroughs, the
website will look at how and why suburbs have developed. Users will be able
to look find out how villages and settlements were swallowed up in the path
of the big city, how they have changed over the last two hundred years and
what its like to live in a suburb. Taking the example of south east London
we have used maps, pictures and documents to illustrate the diversity in
culture, architecture and local history that is suburbia. We want to create
a visually exciting and imaginative experience, generating interest and
awareness of our surroundings.
The launch will be a forum for discussion and suggestions on future content
and we welcome ideas for future partnerships.
This is a New Opportunities Fund digitisation project that Lambeth has been
leading on behalf of the six south east london boroughs, Lambeth, Southwark,
Greenwich, Lewisham, Bromley and Bexley, in partnership with the University
of Greenwich.
Please reply (off list) to me if you would like to attend.
