Before all mention of The War is embargoed by default, (and because I feel
stung into defending the e-mail that started this thread):
Whilst I agree that in general the list shouldn't be used for political
campaigning and/or party politics, and that every effort should be made not
to offend those who may be of a different political persuasion, I also
think there are some events/issues of such global significance that it
would be perverse NOT to mention them here.
It should be possible to talk about the War and its effect on archives and
on human beings without entering into an argument about the politics
involved. Whatever our respective political hues we're surely all
concerned about this?
Any personal/professional boundary is a bit artificial. Which of us
haven't had a discussion about the war at work (or down the pub for that
matter) at some point over the last few days or weeks? The list is
patently not just used for professional archive/rm issues - it embraces all
kinds of other subjects and is the richer for it.
And, frankly, we're not talking about anything else at the moment, are we?
My last word on the subject, honest.
