Subject: Reaching the South East
Hi everyone,
We've prepared a short intro to the project to send out on mailing lists etc. I'd be grateful if you could bring it to the attention of any colleagues who might be interested and send it to any
relevant mailing lists you belong to.
thanks,
Audrey
Reaching the South East <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Reaching the South East is part of the British Library's Reaching the Regions Programme and is a new joint British Library SEMLAC initiative. The aim of the programme is to promote the British
Library (BL) across the region and to develop access to the key collections and services in museums, archives and libraries in the South East. The BL has allocated money in 2003-2004 for partnership
projects designed to raise awareness of collections and services amongst staff and public.
Two Project Officers, Audrey Marshall and Dina Thorpe, have been appointed to take the work forward and they are keen to hear from librarians, curators or archivists who are interested in being part
of this exciting initiative. The general theme is 'Saturday Afternoon' and the challenge for service providers is to come up with ideas which could be worked up into a project plan around this theme -
they might include a roadshow, an exhibition, an event on a Saturday afternoon, a booklet, a video or a website. The British Library has items in its collection which relate to the broad range of
leisure activities associated with Saturday afternoon - from going to a football match, the cinema, the beach or the local museum to shopping and meeting friends in the pub. The Project Officers know
that there are archives, collections - both historical and modern - and services across the South East which are also relevant. They would like to hear from organisations who would be interested in
working with them.
The timescale is tight - funding applications have to be with the British Library by 10th March 2003 and so the project plans have to be worked up during February. To express an interest or to get
more information please contact Audrey Marshall, the lead Project Officer on 01273 542996 or [log in to unmask]
