Resource Chief Executive Steps Down
London, 8 May 2003 -- Following careful consideration and with great
regret, Anna Southall has decided to leave her post as Chief Executive
of Resource: The Council for Museums, Archives and Libraries. Her
decision to step down is due to urgent family reasons.
Anna Southall said: "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with Resource: it
has been enormously exciting and fulfilling. I feel privileged to have
worked with such a dedicated team of people and extremely sorry to have
to leave the post. I must stress that my decision is for purely personal
reasons: I have had to make a very tough decision between work and home
because of my current family situation. I regret very much that I am
leaving Resource at the point where a number of major programmes are
being launched, but I know that the commitment of the Board and of the
staff will ensure that there is no let-up in the momentum to achieve
maximum success for the whole of the museums, archives and libraries
sector."
Mark Wood, Resource's Acting Chair said: "The Board has accepted Anna's
decision with deep regret but complete understanding. Anna has made a
major impact in her time here and we will build on her work. Resource is
in very good shape to deliver on the major programmes for which it has
responsibility. I am quite sure Anna herself will make an enormous
contribution to the world of museums, galleries, archives and libraries
in future."
Arts Minister, Tessa Blackstone, commented: "I am very sorry that Anna
has decided to resign, although I understand her reasons for doing so.
Resource is now moving into a challenging and exciting period of its
development, and I know that the Board will want to move quickly to find
a new Chief Executive. In the meantime, I know that they will continue
to press ahead with the important work they have to do."
Recruitment for a new Chief Executive will begin over the summer. In
the meantime, Chris Batt, Deputy Chief Executive and Director of
Resource's Libraries & Information Society Team will stand in as her
replacement from Monday 12 May. Interviews for the post of Resource
Chair were held last week and an announcement is expected shortly.
