Archives Hub Collections of the Month, March 2003
This month we have selected a series of archives which document Britain's
connections with Iraq over the last 150 years. They range from Joseph
Bonomi's 1856 archaeological lecture notes on Nineveh and Babylon to Davina
Miller's archive of papers relating to the 1992-1996 Scott Inquiry into the
export of defence equipment to Iraq by British firms.
Illustrating the pages are photographs from the archive of Gertrude Bell
(1868-1926), an archaeologist who served with British Intelligence during
the First World War. Bell founded the Iraq Museum in Baghdad in the 1920s.
Her archive is held at the University of Newcastle.
The Collection of the Month page is at www.archiveshub.ac.uk/mar03.shtml.
Best wishes
