I have been asked about the earliest evidence for use of reeds
(Phragmites australis) as roofing in the UK (for a book on wild
plant products). Any ideas?
I imagine it would require exceptional conditions for
burnt/waterlogged thatch to survive (at least, prior to the now well
documented finds of smoke-blackened thatch).
Many thanks
Mark
