THE EUROPE QUESTION:
POLITICS, MEDIA, PSYCHOLOGY
A public symposium organised by the
Centre for Public Communication Research, Bournemouth University,
and the Centre for Psychoanalytic Studies, University of Essex.
Friday 24 October 1.00-5.00
Meeting Room J, Regent's College, Inner Circle, Regent's Park,
London NW1 4NS
What drives British public opinion on the question of Europe? Why
has the Europe issue been so profoundly divisive for both Tories and Labour?
Why have the British not resolved this question after decades of debate?
What responsibilities do our mass media have for public attitudes on this
issue? What can be done to involve more people in the debate, and to
strengthen understanding of the issues?
Bringing together expertise from politics, media research and depth
psychology, this symposium will offer a fresh interdisciplinary examination
of this long-standing and central issue in British politics.
