Applications are invited for a NERC PhD studentship on "Modelling the
Interaction
Between Marine Mammal Populations and Fisheries".
The project, whilst based in the Statistical Laboratory at the University of
Cambridge, involves close collaboration with zoologists at the University of
Aberdeen's Lighthouse Field Station in Cromarty near Inverness and with the
Fisheries Research Service's Freshwater Laboratory in Pitlochry.
Funded by the NERC under their special initiative on Environmental Mathematics
and Statistics, this studentship attracts a maintenance award of £16,000
per year,
plus an additional £1000 award paid directly to the student by the Fisheries
Research Service as CASE partner. All University and College Fees for eligible
students are covered by the award. (See the NERC Studentship Handbook for

requirements and other eligibility restrictions.)
Suitable applicants would be expected to have (or shortly receive) a good
Honours or Masters-level Degree in Mathematics, Statistics or other numerate
discipline. Numerate students with degrees in Biology and/or Ecology may
also apply.
