MRC National Survey of Health & Development
Statistician
Applications are invited from statisticians to work on the MRC National
Survey of Health and Development, a birth cohort study of 5362 people born
in 1946 and followed up ever since. The study aims to investigate the
factors from across life which influence adult measures of health (physical
and mental function and their change with age, and morbidity) and survival.
The postholder will work under the direction of the team's statistician Dr
Rebecca Hardy, and carry out statistical analysis of the data and play a
major role in the development and application of more complex methods of
analysis, particularly for life course epidemiology. The appointed person
will advise other members of the team on statistical analysis, collaborate
in writing scientific papers, and help to maintain the data library. The
appointed person will have the opportunity to develop their own areas of
research, either methodological or epidemiological, within the study.
Applicants should have an MSc or PhD in any branch of statistics, and
skills in the use of statistical packages, particularly SPSS and SAS.
Experience of handling and analysis of large data sets would be an
advantage, as would knowledge of path analysis/structural equation models.
This would be an ideal post for a recent postgraduate or a statistician in
the early career stages.
Benefits include 30 days annual leave per year, a contributory pension
scheme, and an interest free season ticket loan.
