==================================================
JOB: Statistician (research position, 2003 - 2005)
University of Bielefeld, Germany
==================================================
A research position (preferably postdoc) is available
in the Statistics group at the University Bielefeld,
Germany. The position is available for 24 (up to
36 months), starting Nov 1st or from a date to be
agreed.
The research project "Penalised Spline Regression and
Mixed Models" is funded by the Deutsche Forschungs-
gemeinschaft (German Research Society). The goal of
the project is to analyse penalised spline regression
(P-spline smoothing) as new 'en vogue' smoothing method.
Penalised spline regression is a relative young area,
which convinces by simple and fast numerics. The
method shows strong links to mixed models by treating
coefficients of the Spline basis as random.
The focus of the project is on P-spline smoothing
beyond classical normal response data,
that is for generalised models and survival data.
A particular emphasis lies on the development of
inferential tools.
Candidates should have, or expect to obtain, a PhD in
Statistics, Computer Science or a related area.
Good programming skills and experience in any one
of the following areas would be an advantage:
Statistical Modelling, Smoothing, Survival Analysis.
The salary will be on the German BAT II scale,
approx 35-40K EURO before tax (age dependent).
Knowledge of the German language is not required.
Closing date is Oct 17th.
Informal enquiries and applications should be directed to
