Economists are often better at knowing where this stuff is than
statisticians.
Having just done a session in our library with my statistical consulting
class I can point you to a few sites though. One was developed here at
Auckland and is apparently rated very highly worldwide:
OFFSTATS: http://www2.auckland.ac.nz/lbr/stats/offstats/OFFSTATSmain.htm
Other sources are the World Bank and the UN for this sort of worldwide
data.
I am not sure if it is accessible externally, but our library has a page:
http://www2.auckland.ac.nz/lbr/stats/webpages/statsubj.htm
which gives some links about how and where to find data.
Another option is to contact someone who has studied this area and might
already have sought out the relevant material.
